Heroes aren’t born; they are sculpted from the harshest challenges and rise to the top.
Trained by his father to be a lethal assassin, Xan is part of an elite team of demigods known as kynigόs. He's well-respected, and he’s earned it. But when the arrogant sons of Apollo tag along on a routine assignment, an easy kill turns deadly.
Broken and betrayed, Xan is forced to recuperate at the conservatory. Surrounded by lazy and incompetent demigods, he can’t wait to escape. But first, he’ll have to face the charges against him and prove them false.
Join Xan as he fights monsters, demigods, and treachery on his journey to become far more than he’d ever believed possible.
Son of War is an engrossing, fast-paced adventure. Blending urban fantasy and Greek mythology, this short story is perfect for readers who love action and intrigue.
This is a companion story to The Sphinx series, however it can be enjoyed independently.
An exclusive excerpt for Daughter of Darkness is also included.

Raye is A-mazing! I love Xan. It is no secret #XanNappersUnite ... Xan forever! I was so excited to get my hands on this book. I absolutely LOVE the cover, and LOVE the story even more! I feel like I can't divulge too much of my thoughts on the actual story line without giving spoilers away but I will say that the plot line is brilliant and it gives an excellent backstory and insight to Xan, and about his relationships with both friends and foe. I highly recommend picking this book up to read - along with the Sphinx series if you haven't read it yet. Absolutely love Raye Wagner, she doesn't disappoint with this awesome story. I have to admit to reading it a few times... well Xan is my favourite character after all! Thank you Raye!!!Product details

Son of War The Sphinx edition by Raye Wagner Children eBooks Reviews
This short story about Xan is awesome. You answered some questions that I had. I still think the three stooges need an attitude adjustment or a swift kick in the butt. I now really dislike them lol.
If you haven't read Raye's books what are you waiting for.
HAPPY READING EVERYONE! !!
Raye never disappoints with her books. This is a perfect short story that gives you some insight into the character of Xan, son of Ares God of War. This book adds to is character as we go along in the series. We get to meet him before Hope and get to understand his personality from prior events. Each book Raye writes makes me want to binge them all! Excellent writing, supreme story, and intense characters! 5 stars yet again!!! <3
All demigods have history ,a quick look back can help us see, Fantastic Fast pace story of Xan .This story is a series of events that help you see the man Xan is . It brings to light the back story of his place in the compound, and the trust , and power he hold as there leader . Hunting a monster...
A hunt that turns deadly...
A hunt that allows for revenge...
When I read Demigods and Monsters and I was introduced to a new character, Xan, the son of Ares, I was immediately curious about his story, his background especially the hints given in book 2. I was so happy to dive into his story!
I loved getting to know Xan more - seeing from his point of view. Such an intriguing character.
Full of demigods, monsters, gods, indecision, action and fighting for your place.
Perfect for readers of Greek mythology/fantasy.
Finally! I have waited a long time for this. To find out more about Xan. Get to know him a little better. Now I know. I'm still #TeamAthan, though. Sorry, but Xan is an arrogant jerk. I know, I know, he's through a lot in the past. But that doesn't mean he can be mean and disrespectful to everyone else. That said and my hard feelings for the "Son of War" aside I loved this short story. It was a welcomed and long awaited story and I recommend it to all the YA-readers who like heroes with faults and everyone loving Greek mythology. A big "Thank you" to Raye Wagner and Lela Eder for giving me the opportunity to read this new addition to my favorite Greek myth series.
I FLOVE Xan. He's my fave, so I'm glad Raye decided to give him his own book. I also love Raye. She brings us into this mythological, yet realistic world so effortlessly. Even though this is just a companion story, novelette, or novella, it pulled me in and didn't let go. I would've loved a little more depth to Xan's comments about Dahlia and Roan, or Athan and Isa, or his relationship with his father, but that would've required a lot more words and made it into a long-arse novel instead. ) I feel like this gives a good background for Demigods and Monsters (book #2 of the Sphinx series) and how Xan ended up at the conservatory, too. If you enjoyed the other books in the series, you NEED to read this one.
“Son of War” by Raye Wagner is a wonderful story. It’s a short story about Xan’s time before we got to know him in Hope’s story, The Sphinx series. I really enjoyed getting to know Xan’s character better. His story is one of growth to me. The Fates have a different direction for his life than what he wants and throughout the story he comes to accept and grow into that direction. Author Raye Wagner does an excellent job writing in a way you really feel what Xan is going through. I’m loving his cousin Dahlia even more. And it was also great to see other side characters popping in. And the Apollo Brothers!! You dislike them even more. Overall a well done story that brings Xan’s character more to life for the reader. I highly recommend this book. It’s a standalone book so you could read it anytime - before, during, or after the Sphinx series.
